How permeable pavers, rain gardens and drainage features manage stormwater on patios, driveways and yards.
Permeable pavers have gaps filled with small stone so rain passes through into a stone reservoir under the surface. The water then soaks into the soil or drains slowly through pipes. They can reduce runoff and puddles on patios, driveways and walks. Rain gardens and swales do a similar job with plants and shaped ground.
Soil matters. Clay drains slowly, so permeable designs use deeper reservoirs and outlet pipes. Permeable surfaces need cleaning and occasional joint stone replacement to keep working. Local stormwater rules may apply to larger projects. We explain how these systems work and whether they fit your property.
