How broom, smooth, exposed aggregate, stamped, stained and integral color finishes differ in grip, look and care.
Concrete does not have to be plain gray. Broom finishes add grip, smooth steel-troweled finishes are sleek, exposed aggregate shows small stones and stamped patterns imitate stone or brick. Color can be added through the mix, sprinkled on the surface or applied as stain. Sealers protect the surface and change how the color looks.
Finish affects safety and upkeep. Smooth surfaces can be slick when wet, so outdoor areas often use broom or textured finishes. Colors can vary slightly from batch to batch, so we use samples and test panels. Good joints, curing and sealing help the finish last, and we give care advice for each type.
