Questions

Patio questions, answered plainly.

About materials, design, base work, drainage, permits, HOAs, schedules and quotes.

Getting started

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. The Free Estimate comes with no obligation. You see a written scope and a design direction before any work begins or anything is scheduled.

What areas do you serve?

Nashville and nearby communities across Middle Tennessee, including Franklin, Brentwood, Hendersonville, Mt. Juliet, Smyrna and more. See the service areas page for the full list.

Do you design as well as build?

Yes. A designer walks the yard with you, sketches ideas and plans the layout, drainage and materials, and the same team builds what you approve.

Can I start with one small project?

Yes. Many owners begin with a patio, a fire pit or a walkway and add pergolas, kitchens and lighting in phases.

Patios and materials

What is the difference between pavers and stamped concrete?

Pavers are individual units set on a compacted base, so they can be lifted and repaired. Stamped concrete is poured in place and patterned, which gives a seamless look that can crack as the ground moves.

How thick should a patio base be?

Base depth depends on soil, drainage and use. Clay soils around Nashville usually call for a deeper compacted stone base than sandy soils, and your designer explains the plan for your yard.

Which patio material needs the least upkeep?

Concrete pavers, porcelain and natural stone need little more than sweeping and occasional washing. Wood decks and some sealed surfaces need regular care.

Decks, covers and kitchens

Should I choose a wood or composite deck?

Wood is warm and economical and needs staining or sealing. Composite costs more up front and needs very little care. We compare both for your yard and how you use it.

What is the difference between a pergola and a pavilion?

A pergola has an open slatted roof that filters sun. A pavilion has a solid roof that blocks rain. Louvered pergolas can do both.

Can an outdoor kitchen work year round?

Yes. With the right layout, weather-rated cabinets and a plan for winter, many Nashville owners use outdoor kitchens most of the year.

Rules, safety and drainage

Do I need a permit or HOA approval?

It depends on the project and where you live. Decks, covers, walls and fires often need review. We help you prepare drawings and samples, and you confirm rules with your local office and HOA.

How do you handle drainage?

Every patio is sloped away from the house and drains to a safe outlet, with drains, grading or permeable options where the yard calls for them.

Is a fire pit safe near my house?

Distance from structures, a stable base, the right fuel and local rules all matter. We plan the layout and explain safe use.

Cost and schedule

What drives the cost of an outdoor living project?

Size, materials, base preparation, drainage, slope, access, structures, utilities and finishes. A written scope shows exactly what is included.

How do I compare quotes?

Ask each company for the same details: size, materials, base depth, drainage, edging, structures and cleanup. Our quote scorecard helps you compare.

How long does a patio take to build?

Many patios take several days to a couple of weeks once materials arrive, and larger outdoor living projects take longer. Weather and approvals can add time.
